Historical seismic data provide basic data for earthquake research and social earthquake prevention and relief, while intensity data points (IDPs) are the important compent of historical seismic data. Abroad, geoscientists pay attention to collection of IDPs as early as 18-century, and build many marcoseismic intensity databases. There are isoseismal and earthquake catalogue databases but without database related to IDPs in China, so it is our one aim to build a historical seismic data databse system based on IDPs in this paper. The method to determine historical earthquake parameters using IDPs is popular overseas. This method is different from China, and it estimates the parameters like epicenter, magnitude quantitatively by using IDPs, instead of isoseimals. We utilize overseas IDPs method to determine historical earthquake parameters from another point of view. This paper mainly includes two parts as follows:On the basis of works of previous researchers, we try to collect historical seismic data, and calibrate and digitize them, obtaining IDPs and isoseismals. Then assign the intensity value according to literature, and store it in database together with seismic maps. Moreover, given the requirement to visit data, we build Chinese seismic data database systerm based on IDPs through visual interface of VB language by intergrating MapInfo and SQL Server. This database system mainly contains data related to historical earthquake events in Norh China from about 1000 earthquake events. And this system implements basic function of data management, graph display, interactive query between spatial and attribute data, and data output, etc.Later on in the paper we apply the IDPs data of database, utilizing mehods form Paolo Gasperini and Bakun respectively, to estimate the sesmic parameters. The 1303 Shanxi-Hongtong earthquake, the 1679 Sanhe-Pinggu earthquake, the 1888 Bohai sea earthquake and the 1976 Tangshan earthquake have been tested to estimate seismic parameters. We found that each of the methods has merits and shortcomings, and their results can provide one kind of reference for our traditional method to determine historical earthquake parameters.
