As an emerging analysis and detection technology, after more than a hundred of years of study by scientific workers all over the world, XRF technology is developing fast. It has already applied in all kinds of areas, such as metallurgy, geology, non-ferrous, building materials, commodity inspection, environmental protection, health and so on. This paper has researched on the development trends of X-ray fluorescence analyzer and application of X-ray fluorescence analysis technology in the on-site field from domestic and overseas. In view of the present efficiency of X-ray fluorescence analysis used in field operation, this paper has established experimental scheme and technical route to analyze core samples quickly.Given the complexity of quick analysis of core samples in field operation and disadvantages of WD-XRF, ED-XRF has been chosen for this application research. The selection of suitable channel width is according to regional geological outline and mineral features. In term of energy calibration, we use two KÉ‘characteristic peaks belong to Fe and Cu. The energies are 6.40keV and 8.04keV respectively. We choose some standard samples of Cu, Pb and Zn with certain graded distribution to gauged fluorescence analysis system. When measuring core samples, matrix effect, roughness effect, surface contamination, mineralization uneven and other factors always bring error to affect the measurement results. Through matrix effect correction, cleaning the surface of core and taking average for multi-point measurement, we have effectively controlled the error and measured the core samples accurately. We have got a lot of data and spectrum charts by measuring the powder samples, core samples and tunnel walls from Pizhou polymetallic ore in Jingyu County. Through comparing it can be concluded that XRF analysis results and chemical analysis results are basically consistent.Research shows XRF technology can rapidly achieve qualitative and quantitative analysis for core samples and tunnel walls and it costs relatively cheap. Due to the rapid qualitative and quantitative analysis of elements in soil and rocks, XRF technology has great signification in delineating metal prospect area and pursuit of conceal mineral deposits. Therefore further strengthening the application research of X-ray fluorescence technology in quick analysis for solid sample can not only help X-ray fluorescence technology expanding widely in all areas, but also has great significance for the improvement of geology and mineral resources exploration benefit.
