| Left-handed materials(LHMs) is an artificial material which include negative permittivity and negative permeability. It has some special characters which include inverse Doppler Effect, negative index of refraction and backward-wave character. It has become a research hotspot. The substrate integrated waveguide(SIW) is a new transmission line structure. The SIW is synthesized by two rows of metallic via-holes and substrate. It has obtained the advantages of both conventional rectangle waveguide and microstrip line. These advantages contain process easily, high precision, low cost, small size, light weight, low radiation loss, good anti-jamming performance and high integration, etc.The LHMs include two types which are resonant structure and transmission line structure. Based on these two types, this paper verifies and designs four LHMs based on SIW. And all of these LHMs have got left-handed characteristics.First, this paper analyzes the structure and characteristic of the SIW. Compared the SIW with the conventional rectangle waveguide, it find the principle and process of SIW designing. And introduce the application of SIW in the Microwave and Millimeter Wave. Then it analyzes the characteristic of LHMs, and obtains the diagnosis of SIW and parameters extraction. It concludes the method which can extract the permittivity and permeability from scattering parameters. This method provides principle for the determination of the LHMs based on SIW.Second, design the resonant LHMs based on SIW. Analyzes and verifies that the gap on the SIW can create negative permeability. Combined the CSRR unit which can generate negative permittivity and the gap on the SIW which can generate negative permeability, it realizes one type of resonant LHMs which is called SIW-CSRR resonant LHMs. And this paper verifies that the rectangle SIW-CSRR LHMs have a wider left-handed frequency range than circular SIW-CSRR LHMs. Then it discusses the characteristic of dumbbell-shape DGS, and finds that the SIW-DGS band-pass structure can generate negative permeability. Combined the SIW-DGS structure and CSRR unit, we can get SIW-DGS LHMs. And through improving the dumbbell-shape DGS, the magnitude of the permittivity and permeability has been enlarged.Third, design the composite right/left-handed transmission line structure based on SIW. The characteristic of the mushroom structure has been researched. Combined the SIW and the mushroom structure, the SIW-MUSHROOM LHMs has been designed. And it has been found left-handed characteristic in the frequency range from 8.98GHz to 9.06GHz. Then it discusses the influence of its every parameter to its left-handed characteristic.Fourth, design the single-face LHMs based on SIW which is called SIW-towel-typed structure. SIW-towel-typed structure can create left-handed characteristic. It has found the left-handed characteristic in the frequency range from 6.27GHz to 6.34GHz and from 6.84GHz to 6.89GHz. Its all structures have concentrated at the same side, so it is very convenient to adjust the parameters. Then the influence of the parameters of the towel-typed structure to its left-hand characteristic has been researched. |
