Waste channel identification and picking of first arrival are the most important foundation work of seismic data processing. Currently, they are still in manual and semi-manual stage. With the development of seismographs and seismic acquisition technology, it cannot meet the demand of massive seismic data processing to just depend on artificial recognition. Therefore, the research about fast and efficient methods of waste channel identification and automatic picking of first arrival is becoming more and more significant. This thesis consists of two parts:waste channel identification and automatic picking of first arrival. First, basic knowledge of seismic exploration and high-density seismic data processing is described, and the current research of waste channel identification and automatic picking of first arrival is discoursed. Then, those common methods about waste channel identification and automatic picking of first arrival are discussed in detail. Finally, based on the analysis of current methods, we propose two methods to improve the performance of waste channel identification. In first method, the characteristics of seismic data are weighted and cluster analysis is utilized for the identification of waste channels. In the other method, Principal Component Analysis(PCA) is used. In the respect of automatic picking of first arrival, the pre-judgment of range is introduced on the basis of energy ratio method. This method can largely reduce the effect of noise and improve the efficiency of computing. Besides, the picking accuracy has also risen. In this paper, we analyzed our methods theoretically and proved their effectiveness through the experiments.
