Synthesis And Characterization Of High Temperature Lubricating Oil By Alkylation Of Benzene

Lubricating oil by alkylation of benzene is a class major variety of synthetic hydrocarbon oil, compared with the base oil mineral oil, alkylbenzene synthetic oil with excellent low temperature properties, low pour point, high flash point, the oil contains no sulfur; less oxidized sediments.Both AlCl₃ catalyst and ionic liquid catalyst are highly-efficient catalysts to alkylation of benzene. In this paper, with the intention of synthesizing base oil of lubricant with good performance, we systematically studied alkyl of benzene and 1-decene with AlCl₃/HCl catalyst and Et3NHCl-AlCl₃ ionic liquid catalyst.Alkylation of benzene and 1-decene with AlCl₃/HCl catalyst systemwas studied systematically. The effects of alkylation of benzene temperature and reaction time on alkylation of benzene, molecular-weight, viscosity, viscosity index and pour point of product were detailedly investigated. The product obtained was characterized with GC and IR methods. Solidifying point, molecular-weight and viscosity of product were determined according to National Standards of Test Method To Petroleum And Petroleum Products. The studies showed that product obtained of benzene and 1-decene catalyzed by AlCl₃/HCl catalyst catalyst system was a mixture mainly composed of dialkylbenzene and pentamer of 1-decene.Alkyl of benzene and 1-decene with Et3NHCl-AlCl₃ ionic liquid catalyst system showed that the catalyst system coincided with fundamental laws of ionic liquid catalyst. Alkylation of benzene reaction conditions containing temperature and time have not much effects on reaction yield of alkylation of benzene and property of product.
