The conducting electrostatic and anticorrosive coating is a key issue to the petroleum storage tanks. Epoxy conducted electrostatic coating modified by carbon nano tubes is used as film forming material and is mixed into carbon nano tubes as a conducting functional component. This new coating has better characteristics comparing with original conducted electrical coating, such as less endurance performance of conducting electrostatic, colour- blackened, shortage of resistance to water, being inconvenient to constructions, less matching the performance needs of antistatic charge, oil resistance and anticorrosion.This paper prepareda conducting electrostatic coating, which is applied in large petroleum storage tanks, by using the modified epoxy resin and polyamide resin as the film forming resin, the carbon nano tubes and mica as conducting carrier.The surface of the carbon nano tubes was pretreated, to process the surface of carbon nano tubes using purification, alkaline treatment, modification of coupling agent or ultrasonic dispersion. The results exhibit uniform dispersion of carbon nano tubes in coating and much polarized molecular group on the surface of carbon nano tubes. It is helpful to improve the performance of coating. The effects of dosage of carbon nano tubes on properties and mechanism of the coating were discussed in this paper, including mechanical properties, conductivity, heat resistance and oil resistance. Aiming at the particular purpose of carbon nano tubes/epoxy conducting electrostatic coating for large oil tank, the performances of the oil and aging resistance were investigated.The results show that with its application in the anticorrosion paints, carbon nanotubes can effectively improve both the anticorrosion abilities and static conductive abilities of the paint films.
