Polymer only can be useful products by molding processing, and the design and manufacture of mould is one of the most important links. The optimization design of the mould is a very important topic in polymer injection-molding processing domain, especially the optimization of gate location. At present, most of the theories about the optimization of the gate location are based on the numerical simulation in molding process, but they need heavy computations, not direct. This paper will directly base on products geometric shape, using mathematical geometry means to optimize the mould gates, and the main content is summarized as follows:1 The geometry method extracts the optimal centering and the skeleton by using the mathematical morphology, taking in consideration the mold shape parameters. Among them, the optimal centering represents the position of the point, which is the minimum of Hausdorff's distance, by which the optimal centering can be obtained. The skeleton represents the flowing path of the polymer melt in matrices, which can be obtained by a series of centers of maximal circles defined in the mold.2 Using the two geometric parameters, the product's optimal centering and skeleton, we can get the product's geometric centering. When the gate locates the geometric centering, it can guarantee the minimum final injection pressure and the balance filling.3 Applying the geometry method to the optimization design of multiple gates. We can get the flow path, according to the product's skeleton features, and through the different length calculation of the flow path, we can get the optimal gate number and location to ensure the filling balance.4 According to the numerical simulation validation of the different geometry features products, they have proved the feasibility of the geometry algorithm.
