After investigating the ornamental plants in Ya'an city,11 ornamental plants that adapt to the habitat of the artificial wetland are selected based on their growth characteristics, the climatic conditions of study area and the characteristics of the livestock wastewater. And then the growth status, ornamental values and the ability of the purification of these plants in the artificial wetland were studied to further select the ornamental plants with higher tolerance in the livestock wastewater, which would offer new plant sources to artificial wetland and the theoretical basis for disposal of the livestock wastewater in rural area, and the aesthetics and the eco-efficiency of artificial wetland can be obtained. The 11 ornamental plants selected in this studied were:Fatsia japonica, Pritchardia gaudichaudii H. Wendl., hapis excelsa(Thunb.)Henry ex Rehd., var.variegala D'Ombr., Alocasiacucullata(Lour.)Schott, Pilea cadierei Gagnep. et Guill, Lycoris radiata (1'.aher.) herb, Ligularia sibirica (Linn.) Cass, Saxifraga stolonifera, Curculigo capitulata (Lour.) O. Kuntze, Asplenium antiquum Aspleniumnidu. Some of these ornamental plants not only had the ornamental value of the foliages, but also had ornamental value of the followers during the florescence, which could enhance the beauty of the artificial wetland. For instance, Ligularia sibirica, Fatsia japonica, Lycoris radiata and Curculigo capitulata had beautiful followers during the florescence, and the others had ornamental foliages. What is more, these plants were evergreen except Curculigo capitulata, which could maintain the landscape function of the artificial wetland. The hapis excelsa, Ligularia sibirica, Pilea cadierei, Asplenium antiquum, Alocasiacucullata, Pritchardia gaudichaudii, var.variegata, grew well in artificial wetland based on their growing indicators of growth cycle, plant height, tiller number and leaf number, which indicated they adapted to the habitat of the artificial wetland. Meanwhile the Fatsia japonica,Curculigo capitulata, Saxifraga stolonifera, had poor growing and low survival rate. And Ligularia sibirica and Pilea cadierei had larger biomass underground than aboveground, indicating that these two plants had good purification for the livestock wastewater. As for the simulated artificial wetland, the removal of the pollutants of the artificial wetland system with the plant bed was generally better than the one without the plant bed. However, there was no significant difference between the blank control experiment and the experiment of removing the TP and TOC of the livestock wastewater through the plants selected in the condition of high concentrations. And the matrix of the artificial wetland play a major role in removing the pollutants. Consequently, the Ligularia sibirica, Asplenium antiquum and Alocasiacucullata could be finally selected to be the ornamental plants of the artificial wetland for the disposal of livestock wastewater, based on the observation of the indicators of the stain resistance, the decontamination effect and the growth.
