The metal-organic coordination polymers have potential applications as functional materials due to the diversity of conformations, now they become one of the hot spots in the field of coordination chemistry. In the construction of coordination polymers, the choice of metal ions is limited while the choice of ligand is unlimited. It is introduced the basic theory of coordination chemistry, and the development in the correlative field in the paper. Based on two ligands, imidazo[4,5-f]- 1,10-phenanthroline (IMP) and exo-7-oxabicyclo- [2,2,1]- 5-heptene-2, 3-dicarboxylic acid (H2L), twelve novel metal-organic coordination polymers have been synthesized and structurally characterized by FT-IR, elemental analyses and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It have been investigated the photoluminescence properties and the organic molecule-induced single- crystal -to- single- crystal (SCSC) fashions of several coordination complexes. In the second chapter, it is introduced the syntheses of imidazo[4,5-f]- 1,10-phenanthroline (IMP) and its metal-organic coordination polymers. Based on imidazo[4,5-f]-1,10-phenanthroline (IMP) and several secondary ligands, 4,4'-biphenyldicarboxylic acid (H2BPDC), 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (H2BDC), thiophene-2,5 -dicarboxylic acid (H2TDC) and 2,6- naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (H2NDC), eight novel metal-organic coordination polymers formulated as Cu2(IMP)4(BPDC)·5H2O (1), Zn(IMP)2(BPDC)·H2O (2), Cd2(IMP)4 (BDC) (H2O)2·3H2O·(BDC) (3), Zn(IMP)(BDC)(H2O)·H2O (4), Zn(IMP)(TDC)(H2O)2 (5), Zn2(IMP)4(NDC)(H2O)2·4H2O·(NDC) (6), Cd2(IMP)4 (NDC) (H2O)2·4H2O·(NDC) (7) and Zn2(IMP)2(NDC)2·3H2O (8) have been synthesized. Complexes 1, 3, 6, and 7 are molecular binuclear metal(II) clusters. Complexes 2, 4 and 5 exhibit chain-like structures. Compound 8 shows a novel 3D architecture. In the eight metal (II) complexes, the IMP exhibits a similar chelating coordination mode. Furthermore, the differentπ···πstacking interactions are studied as well as the extent of the emission quenching of IMP.In the third chapter, using exo-7-oxabicyclo-[2,2,1]-5-heptene-2,3-dicarboxylic acid (H2L), four new metal-organic coordination polymers Mn(L)(H2O)·H2O (9), Ag(HL)·H2O (10), Mn2(L)2(H2O)4·(phenol)·5H2O (11) and Mn(L) (H2O)2·0.5 (hydroquinone) (12) have been synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffractions. Complex 9 shows a uninodal 3-connected 2D layer with 63-hcb topology. Complex 10 exhibits a uninodal 3-connected network with {4.82}-fes topology. In complexes 11 and 12, similar alternating left-handed and right-handed helical chains are observed. Complex 9 is transformed into complexes 11 and 12 in a single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) fashion upon the attack of phenol and hydroquinone, respectively. The centrosymmetric complex 9 is transformed into the acentric complex 11, which is induced by the acentric phenol molecule. This change indicates that compound 9 has response to phenol which uses as antiseptic in surgery. H2L exhibits similar exo-configuration and different coordination modes in the four complexes. The photoluminescence of the four complexes are studied as well.
