There is a wild field of application for the digital image processing technology. The geometric dimension of industrial components is measured through digital image processing technology. It can solve the problems that checking speed is slow and influenced by the person in the traditional methods.In this paper, the hardware compositions of the image measurement system are discussed and studied. In particular, the image preprocessing, the image edge-detection, the measurement of geometric dimension of components and other key technologies are discussed and studied. In addition, the factors which affect the measurement precision are discussed, and some methods which can improve the measurement precision are proposed.In the hardware part of the image measurement system, the overall program of the image measurement system is designed, the choice of the visual system devices and the design of lighting system are discussed and studied in particular. In the part of image preprocessing, the source of image yawp is analyzed first. Second, based on the analysis of average filter algorithm and median filter algorithm, a new filtering algorithm for mixed noise is proposed. The new filtering algorithm can remove Gaussian and impulse noise efficiently. It can protect the details of image. In the aspect of image edge-detection, some classical edge-detection algorithms (such as Robert operator, Sobel operator, Prewitt operator, Canny operator) and fuzzy edge-detection algorithm are discussed and studied in the first. Second the genetic theory is introduced to the fuzzy edge-detection algorithm. An improved algorithm of fuzzy edge-detection is proposed. The improved fuzzy edge-detection algorithm combines the advantages of fuzzy and genetic theory. The image edges which are extracted are clearer and more intact.Two-dimensional geometric size measurement algorithm of parts, the theory of geometric parameters measurement and implementation methods are analyzed in detail in the paper. First, gravity method and interpolation method which are used to measure the radius for round industrial parts are discussed and studied. The merits of the gravity method and the interpolation method are analyzed, through the theory and the experiment. Second, the scanning algorithm which is used to measure the length and width of the rectangular parts is studied. In this paper, the program of every algorithm was debugged successfully based on Visual C++. The results we studied give some reference for applications and promotion of image measurement technology.
