In this paper, we prepared sodium polyacrylate(PAAs)-collagen hydrolysate(CH) superabsorbent polymer(SAP) by the method of aqueous solution polymerization with potassium persulfate as initiator, N, N'-methylene-bis-acylamid as crosslinking agent. By the introduction of acrylamide and nanosize SiO2 particles, sodium polyacrylate-polyacrylamide-collagen hydrolysate(PAAs-PAM-CH) and sodium polyacrylate-collagen hydrolysate-SiO2(P-C-SiO2) were prepared. We investigated the effect of non-ionic monomer acrylamide and nanosize SiO2 particles to superabsorbent polymer, and we also researched the optimum technological conditions of the preparation of SAP.The optimum technological conditions of the preparation of SAP were deduced by experiments, the result shows that the optimum technological conditions of synthesis of PAAs-CH was:dosage of initiator 1.2wt.% of monomer, dosage of crosslinking agent was 0.05wt.% of monomer, dosage of CH was 6wt.% of monomer, neutralization degree 75%, the water-absorbency of SAP synthesised with optimum technological conditions in distilled water and 0.9wt.% NaCl solution could be 726 g/g and 106 g/g. The optimum technological conditions of synthesis of PAAs-PAM-CH was:dosage of crosslinking agent was 0.05wt.% of monomer, dosage of CH was 6wt.% of monomer, the monomer ratio(wt) was AA:AM=4:1. The water-absorbency of PAAs-PAM-CH synthesised with optimum technological conditions in distilled water and 0.9wt.% NaCl solution could be 1097 g/g and 160 g/g. Surfactant tween80 can improvement the dispersion of SiO2 particles in the preparation of P-C-SiO2, when the dosage of SiO2 was 1% of monomer, the water-absorbency could be highest,775 g/g in distilled water and 86 g/g in 0.9wt.% NaCl solution.We measured the water-absorption velocity, water-retention capability, the respondent performane in 0.9wt.% NaCl solution and thermal stability of the SAP. The results showed that the swelling ratio of PAAs-CH will decrease with the rise of cationic valence and ionic strength. The introduction of acrylamide and CH could increase the water-absorption velocity and respondent performane in 0.9wt.% NaCl solution, but the water-retention capability and thermal stability decreased. The introduction of nanosize SiO2 particles could increase the water-absorption velocity, the water-holding capability, the respondent performane in 0.9wt.% NaCl solution and thermal stability of PAAs-CH.The structure of SAP was also characterize by FTIR, XRD and SEM. The FTIR spectrum showed that CH and SiO2 both reacted with SAP, XRD analysis indicated that the introduction of CH and SiO2 changed the crystal structure of SAP. Scanning electron microscopy observation indicated that there were many micropore on the surface of SAP, the introduction of SiO2 made the surface of SAP more coarse.
