Water is the source of life and the rivers are the blood vesseles of the cities. The economic function, ecological function and landscape function of urban rivers not only provide basic guarantee to the cities but also influence the location,layout and development of the cities.Due to the combined influence of human activities and natural factors, the river degradation has become a global environmental problem and the ecological restoration of the rivers become one of the focuses of research to governments and scholars at home and abroad.On the basis of the analysis of the present situation of the urban rivers in the hilly region, this paper explores the theories and techniques of the ecological restoration of the urban rivers in the hilly region, the main contents and the results obtained are as follows:1) On the basis of the analysis of the concepts and basic theories of river ecological restoration and combining with the features of the rivers in the hilly region,this paper proposes the connotation and objectives of the ecological restoration of the urban rivers in the hilly region, it also discusses the contents and principles of urban river ecological restoration in the hilly region.2) According to the natural characteristics of the rivers and biological habitat requirements in the hilly region, the paper proposes various river ecological restoration techniques such as meandering river restoration, river regulation shore margin, pools-shallow sequence structure, artificial fish nest construction, ecological island, shrub bird construction, etc.3) Based on the structural features and functional analysis of different parts of the bank in the hilly region and taking the influence of the cost of project, project safety, ecological effects, and technological requirements on the form of bank protection into account, this paper determines a reasonable index system and proposes program optimization by the theory of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation.4) Finally, this paper applies the results of research to the ecological of the Jiangyou city session of Fujiang, identifies limiting factors through the ecosystem combining ecology survey, embarks on designing various river morphological restoration and determines the scheme of bank ecological protection.
