The 1-3 piezoelectric composite materials is a new piezoelectric materials which is madeof piezoceramic fibers embedded in Polymer. The geometric characteristics of piezoelectricphase are key factors to influence the composite materials. The material properties (Young'smodulus, Poisson ratio, thickness) of the metal base has a great impact on the output of 1-3piezoelectric composite material sensor.Firstly, a comprehensive review about researches on piezoelectric composites is given.And the finite element analysis method in the application of piezoelectric composites isintroduced briefly. Secondly, the effectiveness of different geometric properties ofpiezoelectric phase on the properties of piezoelectric composite materials has been analyzedby the finite element software ANSYS. Finally, the infullence of the metal base on the sensoroutput of the 1-3 piezoelectric composite materials is analyzed. The main results of this articleare listed as following:(1) The influence of geometric shapes (i.e. circular cylinder, square column, and circularcylinder alternated with square column) of piezoelectric phase on the 1-3 piezoelectriccomposite materials is analyzed. The internal stress and strain distribution of different shapesof piezoelectric phase is concluded. The elastic stiffness coefficients, piezoelectric constantsand dielectric constant of the 1-3 piezoelectric composite are obtained by calculating. Theresults shows that the piezoelectric shape have little effect on 1-3 piezoelectric composites,but when the shape of the piezoelectric phase is circular cylinder, the material's stressdistribution has more harm than square column and circular cylinder alternated with squarecolumn. The results can guide the choice for the shape of the piezoelectric phase whenproducing 1-3 piezoelectric composite materials.(2) The influence of combinaed piezoelectric phase in composite material in differentshapes (i.e. circular cylinder, square column, and circular cylinder alternated with squarecolumn) under the piezoelectric composites is analyze. The Law graph about the effectivecharacteristic parameters changing with volume fraction of piezoelectric phase can providepowerful evidence for practical application in proper choice of piezoelectric phase shape andvolume.(3) The influence of properties (Young's modulus and Poisson ratio, thickness) of themetal base on the output of sensor which is made with 1-3 piezoelectric composite materialsis analyzed. The Stress and strain distribution and the metal base effects of piezoelectricproperties graph is got. The results can guide the actual production of the sensor.In this paper the influence of the effectiveness of piezoelectric phase geometric shapes to 1-3 piezoelectric composite materials has been studied. The metal base to the output of thepiezoelectric sensor has been discussed, too. The results has a practical guiding significanceto the compound sensor's making.
