Fission hinged whirlwind tool holder is the key equipment of Heavy-duty NC Crankshaft Milling and Turning Complex Machining Center. Its performance has a direct impact on the precision of large crankshaft. The objective of this paper is to finish the test of Whirlwind Tool Holder's key performance by constructing a performance test system.According to the structure characteristics of whirlwind tool holder, a test task was made after analyzed its key technical indicators. Namely the vibration performance of the work piece in the cutting process, the precision of U-axis cutting feed, the repeat location accuracy of tool holder and cutter. And then a total scheme of the performance test system was made. Three-dimensional modeling of the key parts of the Whirlwind Tool Holder were founded by the UG software, and then the assemble body model was completed. The assemble body model was analyzed by the ANSYS software, mainly including the statics characteristic analysis and modal analysis. The stress distribution, deformation distribution, the front six order modal shape and natural frequency in theory were got through the analyses.According to the test system scheme, the work piece's vibration performance was tested with Advantech USB-4711a data acquisition and Kistler micro-accelerometer. The U-axis cutting feed precision was tested with PIC16F877a MCU and Heidenhain grating length-gauge. The test system software was used to control the data acquisition. The test system software was developed using VC6.0, and was responsible for controlling the data acquisition, receiving data, doing data process, drawing graph and outputting the data.Finally, through testing experiments, the key performance of the whirlwind tool holder was tested. According to the data process and analyses, whether the test results fitted the precision requirements or not were judged. Also the testing experiments verified the test scheme and the test system validity and feasibility.
