Open architecture CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) system could meet different application requirements, relying on its openness, interchangeability, transportability and extendibility. This dissertation presents systematic analysis of the architecture, hardware design, software modeling and development, which are the critical points of open architecture CNC system, and then validates the feasibility by improving the traditional NC drilling machine.The main contributions of this dissertation consist of the following parts:The first part generalizes the history and analyzes the tendency of CNC system, then presents the limitations of traditional close architecture, based on which the necessity of open architecture CNC system is clarified. Besides, the current situations of the open architecture CNC system at home and abroad are studied and the model of"PC + motion controller"for open architecture CNC system is confirmed. This model contains hierarchical modules that offer an infrastructure of hardware design and software modeling for reference.The second part studies the guidelines of open design of hardware structure based on the requirements of openness in open architecture CNC system. With the support of a deep analysis of hardware modules partition and bus selection, the hardware platform consisting of industrial computer and motion controller is confirmed.The third part studies the software architecture and development methods of open architecture CNC system and proposes to apply COM component technology for software development. It also builds a reconfigurable module library based on COM component technology, for which a set of standard definitions of interfaces are introduced. Then it studies the technology of programming the software of CNC system based on COM component technology.The fourth part describes the process of information transmission of GUI and then builds a user model. It also generalizes some GUI design guidelines under which coding graphic component in the graphic interface component library.The fifth part improves conventional 3-D numerical control drilling machine on the platform built in the previous parts. Test results show the feasibility and validity of the proposed architecture of open architecture CNC system. Furthermore, the prospect of developing tendency is analyzed as well.
