Open NC system is a popular study field of numerical controlling technology. It has following advantages: friendly person-computer interface, highly opening degree, good universal usage and so on. The paper mainly researched the open CNC system which aimed at the PC architecture + motion controller structure, used Visual C++ programming language, based on the GM-400 motion controller, had constructed a set of open CNC system about vehicle milling initially, and applied this set of CNC system on a transformation vehicle milling machine successfully.Firstly, this paper discussed the birth of CNC system, development of CNC system, advantages compared with traditional CNC, present situation and model structure. Introuducing classical processing about vehicle milling, explained the character about axial turn-milling, orthogonal turn-milling and common turn-milling. The paper elaborated the hardware structure and software design of CNC system about vehicle milling which based on the different function modules in the human machine interface.Secondly, this paper analyzed the real-time about CNC system. Through a test program, elaborated three fixed time functions SetTimer(), GetTickCount() and timeGettime()'s errors and fluctuations, according to analysis result author discovered a error correction method.Thirdly, because GM-400 motion controller did not have interpolation function, according to propagation DDA interpolation theory, based on coordinate axis of vehicle milling and feed process, compiled the straight line and the circular arc interpolation procedure, realized the straight line and the circular arc interpolation function.Finally, successfully testing this vehicl CNC system at a foundation modelling platform, through connected one vehicle milling machine which transformed a ordinary lathe, had constructed a numerical control vehicle milling tool initially. Through the processing experiment, we obtained conforme to the request work piece shape, it proved the numerical control system feasibility.
