The batching process is the first working procedure in the furniture manufacturing. Mostof the furniture enterprises are using the circular saw as the major equipment in their batchingplant in China. But with the development of the informatization and the flexible manufacturing, optimized saw, as one of the representatives of the advanced manufacturing devices, has beenincreasingly used in the furniture industry. The article selected the batching plant of a pinefurniture enterprise, emphasized on the differences of the two equipments mainly in the aspectsof the batching mode, the productivity and the cost. Research results are as follows:(1)Both of the optimized saw and the circular saw finished the task by cutting thematerial, but the former judged the cutting position by the labor, the later optimized the cuttingprogram by the contrast between the databases.(2)The circular saw used3.57s in every cutting time while the optimized saw0.92s. Thewooking speed of the former was7.69m/min while the later was30.01m/min.(3)Both of the two machines wooked in the same period of time, the optimized saw was5times the circular saw in the comparision of the number of long timbers and the short ones,while16times in the comparison of the number of the medium length timbers.(4)Both of the two machines wooked on the same number of the raw boards, thedisadvantages of artificial computing appeard, the circular saw was only1/4of the optimizedsaw in the comparison of the number of the medium length timbers.(5)The scale error of the timbers produced by the circular saw was7.71mm, the errorburst was (-10,28)mm. The scale error of the timbers produced by the optimized saw was1.17mm, the error burst was (0,3)mm. The circular saw possessed unstable performance whilethe optimized saw very sable.(6)The cost of the material was the most important factor in the total cost of the products. The cost of one timber produced by the circular saw was1.33times to the one produced by theoptimized saw. The cost difference of one timber added as the length grew, the relationshipbetween the cost difference and the length was: y=0.267e0.325x.(7)The optimized saw could be introduced to the furniture enterprises whose annualusage of wood could reach1600m3.It only needed one year for an enterprise to recover the costof the optimized saw while the usage of wood could reach600m3every month.
