Seawater desalination becomes one important method to solve water crisis, with the increasingly shortage of freshwater resources in the world. But as desalinated water has large differences with the traditional water, when it is transmitted into the pipe network separately, it would possibly lead to serious―colored water‖phenomenon, so desalinated water should be stable processed before introduced into distribution system. This paper focuses on the effects of different water quality, metal pipe materials, and hydraulic conditions on the pipe water quality, the dynamic pilot scale experimental device and static immersion pipe as experimental platform, and based on that, the actual water quality stability index system is established, including water quality index and specific influential indicators range.Firstly, regulate important quality factors of the raw water with different water quality, including pH, alkalinity, dissolved oxygen, sulfate, chloride, and chlorine and other water quality indicators. It is concluded that because of the poor stability of desalinated water, when it was introduced into pipe, the pH and iron content had dramatic changes, and iron release phenomenon had correlation with the indicators. Also, by limiting the iron release rate, the specific limits of each factor is given.Secondly, it is found that pipe material have a major impact on the release of ions, by studying the different water in the different pipes (including steel pipe, cast iron pipe, and lined ductile iron pipe) with different resident time or soaking time.Thirdly, the important factors affecting the stability of water quality is determined, by dominating AHP and the actual experimental data dependence analysis. It is found that there is a large positive correlation between the iron release rate and Larson index by mapping, then a multi-index and more realistic Larson index is established based on original Larson index.Fourthly, water stability influential indicators range is determined based on theoretical analysis, with referencing to the foreign water quality indicators range of chemical stability and national drinking water health standards, combined this experiment.
