As a roughing and semi-finishing processing method, the biggest advantage of plunge milling is removing large amount of metal rapidly, so a larger radial cutting depth is always selected in order to improve processing efficiency, while the Ti alloy is a kind of material which is difficult to process, thus the milling force is relative large and the chatter vibration is easy to happen in plunge milling Titanium alloy. In this paper, the milling stability in plunge milling Titanium alloy is researched deeply, and the research content is as follows:Cutting force model is structured in plunge milling Titanium alloy. The cutter blade and spindle rotation are both divided into small differential elements, and then, The each edge element load of blade is evaluated and digitally integrated to predict the instantaneous total forces in three directions. Because plunge milling is feeding along the spindle direction, the radial cutting depth change with the spindle rotation and the relationship between cutting force and spindle rotation can be obtained. The cutting force model in plunge milling Titanium alloy can be structured.Chatter vibration model is structured in plunge milling Titanium alloy. The plunge milling system can be reduced to 3-DOF flexibility - Quality - damping system in the three orthogonal directions, and the mode parameters in this model can be acquired by experiments. Based on regenerative chatter theory, the affection of vibration in X, Y, Z direction to dynamic uncut chip thickness is considered. The cutting force and vibration can be simulated based on MATLAB, Compared the simulation results with experiments data, the milling force and vibration curve have a good agreement, which testify the correction of those models.The stability lobes is researched and acquired according to the chatter detection criterion and time-domain simulation method, which have a good reference for choosing the actual processing parameter.
