Viscosity is a material's physical property. Thus, we proposed generalized viscosity model and attempt to explain problem of the uniqueness of viscosity for generalized Newtonian fluids. In order to testify the correctness of the model and measure real viscosity of polymer melts, we invented a rheometer that can measure generalized viscosities. With a commercial software, POLYFLOW, accuracy and rationality of the real viscosity model is verified. Data of several experiments and simulations are analyzed, which are obtained from an invented rheometer that can measure generalized viscosities, various commercial rheometers and POLYFLOW simulation. The analysis results show are as follows:A proposed measuring method and the invented rheometer are rational and feasible in validation of the generalized viscosity model.A constant extensional rate in a certain flow rate can be obtained by the new rheometer and along the radius showed a parabolic shape of the velocity distribution.A contraction flow has been designed which shear viscosity and extensional viscosity can be measured simultaneously with the new viscosity model. Comparing calculated value with viscosity and measured value from different commercial rheometers, there is some error. It shows that the proposed rheometer and viscosity model is reasonable in analysis of pure shear viscosity and pure tensile viscosity.
