Modern NC milling process requires the high precision, high quality and high efficiency manufacture, and the CNC machining performance should be showed adequately. In the actual process, elastic deformation of milling system is inevitable, especially the elastic deformation generated in interaction between milling cutter and workpiece, while its vibration affects the machining precision and surface quality directly. Therefore the research for milling cutter and the workpiece vibration characteristic has important significance on the machining accuracy improvement.The cutter deformation vibration and the corresponding variable cross-section thin-wall workpiece vibration characteristics in NC milling process are researched in this paper, and the corresponding mathematical models are established respectively, and the simulation calculation and analysis are carried by ANSYS software to verify and modify the established vibration models, eventually, to obtain comparatively correct vibration models. At the same time, the overall frame of milling vibration simulation system, NC milling vibration simulation system developed based on VB and MATLAB, is put forward. Aiming at workpiece rigidity variation, there are two simulation analysis parts: when the workpiece thickness is big enough and its rigidity is strong enough, the cutter vibration analysis is given priority, and the milling cutter vibration fundamental frequency and response are calculated with simulation by calling the milling cutter vibration mathematical functions established in this paper; under the other condition, workpiece vibration is simulated as the main, and the workpiece vibration fundamental frequency and response function are calculated by calling variable cross-section vibration mathematical model function. The system simulation results can be output in different ways according to engineering researchers'requirements, which is convenient for the subsequent simulation. By this study of variable cross section walled workpieces, the variable cross-section workpiece researched in this paper shows the rationality of the vibration model and the vibration simulation system.The vibration fundamental frequency can be calculated effectively and quickly according to the vibration model established in this paper, the milling force impacting frequency can be changed by amending the corresponding milling parameters to restrain or weak the evocable vibration effectively, to provide theory basis for the milling optimization. The establishment of the milling vibration simulation system brings theory basis and guidance for vibration mechanism research and the actual production processing optimization provides. Therefore this research has important significance.
