Mercury is an non-essential elements of human, which is toxic and brings irreversible damage to central nervous system.With its frequent use in industry, resulting the anthropogenic emissions of mercury increasing and the content of mercury in the environment higher than the background value.In modern times, the high incidence of mercury poisoning makes researchers pay more attention on the mercury pollution of the environment.The application of mercury in metallurgy is original and general method of extracting gold, and its principle is that makes the use of mercury could form amalgam with gold ,then put mercury into the slurry of gold, so that the gold and other minerals would be separated.The region of Jiapigou gold mining,which is Huadian City, Jilin Province,had applied mercury in metallurgy since 1821.Though China had full stopped the use of mercury in extracting gold, the mine had used the traditional method for over 170 years. The history of this period inevitably led large amounts of mercury into the environment.The mercury that gets into the environment can not be natural decomposited expect enriched in the environmental factors, and then absorbed by the humans through the food chain, causing some harm to humans.This paper made the region of Jiapigou gold mining as the research object, analyzed the total mercury and methylmercury content of the environmental factors and the internal relations of them, especially the contents of total mercury and methylmercury in the soil and their spatial distribution, simultaneously evaluated Ecological risk of the mercury in the study area's soil. The results show that of all environmental factors the content of total mercury in the plants is the largest and total mercury in the water is the smallest;The contents of methylmercury in the environmental factors has presented the law as plants>soil>sediment>water;Spring,the content of total mercury in soil ranges 0.0915~2.5095mg/kg,while what ranges 0.0649~2.0644 mg/kg in autumn.The spatial distribution pattern of total mercury in soil in spring and autumn is nearly consistent, both radiate to the surrounding as the centers of Shuanghetun and Toudaocha.But the spatial distribution of the methymercury in soil in spring and autumn has no consistent rules,and the total mercury content of some samples with high methylmercury content is not necessarily high.The ecological risk of mercury in soil is evaluated by the geoaccumulation index and potential ecological risk index,and result shows that no matter spring or autumn there are on clean samples in soil,and most samples'potential ecological risk index are"very high".It shows that no matter spring or autumn,the levels of mercury pollution in soil are both based on Jiapigou gold mine,Shuanghetun,Toudaocha decreased,and Wudaogou owns the lowest level of contamination.So it's visible that the region of Jiapigou gold mining bears some risk of mercury due to the gold mining,and threates humans'heath.
