Ultra-speed grinding is one of the hottest areas of grinding research for its particular advantages which had been proved in the Ultra-precision machining.Quick point grinding technology was developed by Junk Machine company in the last 90s. Ultra-speed-point grinding is created by Northeastern University of China under the sponsor of National Nature Fund. But the theoretical study of its cutting mechanism is still blank, also for its process systems.The basic working principle of ultra-speed-point grinding is:there are angles between the axis of work piece and the axis of wheel in two directions, both in the horizontal plane and in the vertical plane. The purpose is making the contact area of the wheel and the work piece being only a point. And the grinding wheel can be controlled by CNC system to grind the whole complicated cylindrical surface. Since the point-grinding angles existence in quick-point grinding, it is the point contact between the wheel and the work-piece. This type of machining could enhance efficiency and reduce cost, the practical using of the method had proved it.Ultra-speed-point grinding is one of the hottest areas of grinding research for its particular advantages which had been proved in the Ultra-precision machining. Comparing with other tradition grinding technique, the mechanism of ultra-speed speed grinding is more complicated, and the CBN on wheels which have advanced technologies make it even harder to establish the standards of the machining method. Great efforts for the foregoing two points have been made by the author under the sponsor of National Nature Fund:Ⅰ) The development application and characteristic of the ultra-speed-point grinding was summarized, and based on all the summarization the method has been analyzed from the geometry parameters of grinding. Further study and simulation on those parameters has been carried on which educed the conclusion of relating between the processing parameters and the geometry things.Ⅱ) Base on all the results of stepⅠand the trait during practical application, the analysis of the contact area between wheel and work piece of ultra-speed speed grinding has been down in this paper, the real shape of the area and how it varies with process parameters were obtained from simulation by the author, which is the foundation for other research works. III) Synthetically considering the influence of high temperature and high strain rate on the metal and further effects on the mechanical process, a new type of cutting mechanism was theorized by the author in this dissertation. The contact pressure and the grinding force and the maximum temperature were calculated according to the new model.IV) From step II and step III, considering the contact pressure and friction status, based on theoretical analysis and simulation research, the mechanism of wheel wear has been researched and the standard for dressing of ultra-speed-point grinding wheels was founded in this article to conduct the using of this new type wheels.V) Combined all the effects of ultra-speed-grinding and compared with normal grinding machining, the advantages and disadvantages of ultra-speed-point grinding were educed. Also some advice for continued research was proposed too.
