The grinding processing is an important processing technology in the machinery manufacturing, as an important means to achieve high-precision, high-quality processing, it has been valued and continuously researched and developed with. CBN grinding wheel as widely used as a super-hardness, ultra-high-speed grinding wheel, makes a lot of academics and research institutes carry out a large number of research and development, especially when it is used in point grinding technology, the grinding performance is more excellent. Point grinding technology is an advanced manufacturing technology which is a set of CNC machining, super-hard abrasive (CBN) and ultra-high speed grinding technology, with the characteristics of high performance, high efficiency and high quality, as one of the most advanced processing method in precision machining, point grinding technology has gotten more and more attention nowadays. This article mainly focuses on the following research work:(1) Describe the technical characteristics of point grinding processing as well as its development and application inland and abroad, summarize the material properties and prospects of the CBN. Introduce the characteristics and research status of CBN grinding wheel, points out the source of the topic, the research significance and research content.(2) Systematically study the mechanism of Point Grinding, introduce the concept of deflection Angle and tilt Angle alpha beta. Starting with the geometric features of point grinding, derive and establish the mathematical model and calculation formula of equivalent diameter of the cup grinding wheel, grinding wheel and workpiece contact arc length, single diamond grits biggest chip thickness not deformation, grinding force and grinding temperature related to alpha Angle, grinding depth, the speed of workpiece, the grinding wheel speed, grinding wheel diameter and workpiece diameter, and carries out the analysis, summarizes the impact of these parameters.(3) Expound the influence of characteristics parameters of grinding wheel on the grinding process and selection principles, and preliminarily determines the characteristic parameters of grinding wheel. Meticulously study the coarse grinding area Angle theta, analyze the influence of the increase and decrease of Angle theta on grinding performance, machining accuracy and machining efficiency, design and produce three kinds of grinding wheels for the experiment.(4) Carry out simulation analysis about finite element. Build grinding wheel model and single abrasive cutting model by ABAQUS software. Observe the stress and strain of the workpiece by changing the coarse grinding angle theta of grinding wheel model. Observe its effect on the grinding force by changing the size of the Angle alpha. Established four kinds of abrasive particles to do the cutting simulation, analysis the stress of the workpiece under different abrasive cutting, choose a kind of abrasive to do the cutting simulation by changing cutting depth and cutting speed, observe the changes of the grinding temperature and grinding force.(5) Design single-factor test and do the machining experiment on ductile iron workpiece by using optical curve grinder. Use three kinds of different coarse grinding angle theta of ceramic bond CBN grinding wheel, respectively change the variable Angle alpha, grinding depth, axial feeding speed, wheel speed for grinding, then using three-dimensional contour meter and Super depth of field microscopy to observe surface roughness and surface morphology, collate the experimental data then get fitting curves, summarize the influence law of different parameters on surface roughness and analyze the reason of the law in order to optimize the CBN grinding wheel’s grinding process and improve the surface quality.(6) Using the thermal imager to measure the temperature of contact area of grinding wheel and workpiece in machining, make a fitting curve, analyze the change of the temperature of the contact area under different coarse grinding angle theta, variable Angle alpha, grinding depth, the axial feeding speed and wheel speed, then sum up the law.(7) Conclude the whole work, draw conclusions, and give suggestions for further research.
