Study On Urban Biodiversity Conservation Planning Of Wuxi City

Biodiversity is the material basis and plays an important role in human survival, development, human civilization. Uncontrolled human exploitation has caused serious loss of the planet's biodiversity. In recent years, more and more concerns have been drawn to conservation of biodiversity. Nations have implemented biodiversity conservation via legislation, international cooperation, practical research and theoretical studies.Urban biodiversity is an important and special part of the global biodiversity. With the advance of the urbanization process in China, urban areas are expanding consecutively, which give rise to a series of urban ecological problems and it is imperative to protect the urban biodiversity. China's urban biodiversity conservation planning has been conducted and relevant theoretical studies and practical work has been started. In 2005, Ministry of Construction demanded that the city which was competing in the national garden city campaign needs to take biodiversity conservation planning as a one of the prerequisites, in order to elevate the effectiveness by policy guidance.As China's urban biodiversity conservation planning is still in the initial stage, planning work is not yet fully mature. In this study, we took the City of Wuxi as a model to explore the patterns that city biodiversity conservation planning which coordinated with the development of urban, to find out how Wuxi succeeded with solving the existing problems of biological diversity of the city of Wuxi, to explore a way to realize city biodiversity conservation planning by integrating with foreign research on urban biodiversity conservation domestically and abroad, hopefully to be some reference to biodiversity conservation of cities in East China and the whole country. Main results in this paper are as follows:(1) We summarized problems in China's biodiversity conservation through reading on urban biodiversity protection planning policy and regulations in China, studying the theory at home and abroad. We summed up the currently existed problems, which are:lacking of uniform and preparation of outline, immatureness of the related research, disconnecting between the planning and the urban construction and other special planning and lacking of specialized institutions and professionals to guide the city reported to protect biodiversity. (2) Combined with the status of biodiversity in Wuxi City, our research made reasonable suggestions to Wuxi's biodiversity conservation from the follow respects:urban biodiversity monitoring and management system to protect diversity of plant species, bird species and fish species etc.(3) Combined with China's current urban biodiversity conservation planning problems, this paper analyzed the theory of domestic and foreign and summed up China's urban planning for biodiversity conservation, which can be achieved by four ways:policies and regulations, scientific research, town planning and international cooperation.
