Because of its unique nature, ionic liquids have gained a great deal of attention. In this thesis, N-alkylpyridinium bromide ([APy]Br), 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([AMIm]Br) and 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium imidazolide ([AMIm]Im) were used to process petroleum products, mainly in two aspacts, removal trace olefins from aromatics and removal naphthenic acids from acid oil. In the former, it was found that the length of alkyl chain and the dosage of AICl3 had significant impact on the reaction, whereas the types of cation and anion in ionic liquids mainly influenced the conversion. At room temperature, almost 100% olefin conversion was obtained using [BPy]Br-AlCl3 as the catalyst after 16min of reaction, with the dosage of 0.5%. The kinetics and mechanism of the reaction were studied. In the latter, by comparing of the activity of [APy]Br, [AMIm]Br and [AMIm]Im in deacidification, the performance of deacidification followed the order [APy]Br< [AMIm]Br< [AMIm]Im. The stronger alkaline of ionic liquids were, the higher deacidification would be. The growth of alkyl chain length was also beneficial to get high deacidification. When the reagent/oil ratio of [OMIm]Im/oil was 0.008, and the deacidification rate could be reached 100% afer one hour of reaction at the temperature of 323 K, which was much better than using [OMIm]Br. [OMIm]Im also could treat with high acid oil effectively, and showed good reusability. The deacidification mechanism was that liquid clathrate could form due to interaction between the ionic liquids andπ-bond in naphthenic acids throughπ-πinteraction. The preliminary results reveal that ionic liquids, with good prospect for industrial application, had good performance on the two above application, and the processes consume less energy, save time and produce less pollution to environment.
