In this paper, the on-line device of small sieve plate column with diameter of 110mm, hole area percent of 6.84% was developed using cyclohexane-normal heptane system and the mass transfer performance was also studied. The effect of heating power, feed temperature, feed flow rate and feed concentration on tray efficiency was researched with the application of MCGS software to monitor and control temperature, pressure, liquid level, flow rate and heating power. The optimum operation conditions were obtained. In the meantime, the test of mass transfer performance also was studied in a sieve plate column with diameter of 750mm, hole area percent of 6.4% using the same media. It was found that the overall tray efficiency of bigger column was 20% higher than that of smaller one. Based on a lot of experimental date, three kinds of classic efficiency prediction models such as AIChE, Chen, Chuang and Chan-fair were used to calculate the tray efficiency combined with diffusion model, and the most reasonable efficiency prediction model was Chan-fair model. The research results could provide basis for industrial design and application.
