Calixarenes, which are basket-shaped macrocyclic compounds with potential interest for host-guest complexation studies, represent the new type of receptors after cyclodextrins and crown ethers, and have strong ability of selective extraction to metal ions. In this paper, calix[4]arene reported in literature was synthesized. The halong groups were installed into calix[4]arene through chemical modification at the lower ring of the calix[4]arene.25,27-bis hydroxy-26,28-bis(2'-bromo ethoxy) calix[4]arene 3; 5,11,17,23-tert-butyl-25,27-bis hydroxy 26,28-(2-bromo ethoxy) calix[4]arene 4; 5,11,17,23- tert-butyl -25,27- bis hydroxy -26,28-(3'-propoxy ethoxy) calix[4]arene 5; 5,11,17,23- tert-butyl -25,27- bis hydroxy -26,28-(4'-butoxy ethoxy) calix[4]arene 6; 5,11,17,23- tert-butyl -25,27- bis hydroxy -26,28-(2'-chlorine ethoxy) calix[4]arene 7 and 5,11,17,23- tert-butyl -25,27- bis hydroxy -26,28-(4'-butoxy ethoxy) calix[4]arene 8 were synthesized. The resultant prouducts were characterized by IR and 1HNMR and were prepared for the next study of liquid membrane transport. According to the principles of the molecular design and assembly,the lower rings substitution of three types calixarene-based recepters were described, which is obtained from the typical kind of reaction between calix[4]arene 1 and acyl halogen or halogenated hydrocarbon, under a appropriate reaction condition, the function groups which contains lonely couple of electrons has been successed attached to the calix ring body.The extraction behavior of three types of Ag+,Cu2+,Cr3+ ions was investigated with calix[4]arene derivative:we used the dichloromethane as the diluent,and dissolved the metal ion into the HNO3 solution as aqueous layer; the solvent extraction experiment is carried out under the room temperature (about 28 centigrade), and the different distribution rate is observed under various HNO3 concentration of the three different extractants, and the different the conclusion is reached as follows:The results indicate:the calix[4]arene 2,3,4 has excellent ability of extraction by Cr3+, Cu2+, Ag+ ions respectively, each of their highest extraction efficiencies was 83.53%, 80.68% and 89.16%.According to the HSAB theory and compared the volume of crown with the halonge of atom,the experimental phenomenon was briefly discussed.The anti-extraction of Ag+,Cu2+ and Cr3+ with stronge acid terms was also investigated. In the end, the full paper was concluded. The shortcomings as well as the prediction have been concerned.
