As a kind of special, high-efficiency and high-quality automation equipment, the modular machine tool has been widely used in industrial production. Currently, the majority of enterprises are still designing modular machine tools by the traditional design methods, but there are some shortages-long design period, and lack of design innovation. Strengthening the research of computer-aided design of modular machine tools, can help to change the current design patterns, to promote the wide use of modular machine tool, and thus to enhance the production capacity and market competitiveness, to promote the country's industrial development. Research of modular machine tools includes structure design, multi-axle design, fixture design, hydraulic system and electric control system design and so on. Currently, CAD(Computer Aided Design) technology has been introduced to the design of modular machine tool, and a number of design systems have been developed, but they are inadequate in function, integration and technology updating. Based on the above and cooperation program of drilling and tapping modular machine tool with a company in ZheJiang, I have done an in-depth theoretical study of computer-aided modular machine tools design, the main research work is reflected in the following aspects:1) Established modular machine tools machining needs expressing model based on processing characteristics. Work pieces machining requirements are generally more complex, based on computer-based knowledge representation and spatial geometry, established the hierarchy expressing model. the method is easy to understand and operate, and achieve to express the process need of a work piece in computer, as well as the modular machine tools machining feature model library is established. Based on this method, modular machine tool cutlery representation is also achieved, achieving digital expression of tools information, providing a support to fast design of modular machine tool. 2) A modular machine tool design repository is established. Design of a modular machine tool requires much data to support, including mechanical processing parameters, the modular machine tool parts information and cutlery information. Based on the parametric design methods, databases, and design standards, common components information databases, machining technology databases and tool repository are established, providing a basis for the next processing operation optimization and design of modular machine tool.3) Rational planning modular machine tools machining processes based on the sampling method. The combination of machining with multi-feature, multi-tool, multi-position characteristics, the number of processing operations usually between a dozen and dozens, even taking into account the process has constraints, the calculation of the amount of viable sequencing scheme is also very large. the planning method take the optimal value with sampling, evaluation, and determine the degree of optimization with the difference of number of sampling results in order to find optimal or near optimal sorting scheme. This method is easy to understand, easy to program.4) Overall design of the structure of modular machine tool. According to the design features of the modular machine tool, the methods of selection of the modular machine configurations and common components are proposed. The method can choose the right configurations for specific processing needs, and select the generic parts. Then, the overall structure of modular machine tool is complete. Finally, the machine tool program evaluation method is proposed, there can be a reliable assessment of the processing efficiency and cost.5) Design System and applications. Based on the above theoretical studies, computer-aided design system of the modular machine tool is developed, built a design software architecture system with the processing needs of expression, the design of resource management and the overall structure of the program. In combination with the enterprise project, the design system developed a possible modular machine tool design program.
