The crankshaft is a very important component of the engine, so the development of high quality crankshaft is of crucial importance to improve the performance of engine. Casting crankshaft with iron mould coated sand can best meet its requirements, but there are still problems. This paper illustrated the following research and improvement:The ANSYS software was applied to simulate the temperature field of the casting crankshaft with iron mould coated sand, and temperature distribution of the iron mould, coated sand and casting were analyzed. The time required for opening was obtained in the simulation, and the thickness of iron mould and coated sand layer were determined, which provided scientific basis for the optimization of process operation. The research on production line of casting crankshaft with iron mould coated sand and its automatic control system were introduced. The production demands, main equipments, casting process and layout of the production line were analyzed in detail. On the basis of the above study, the automatic production line based on fieldbus were designed and realized. The main contents were as fo11ows: automatic control system, hardware select, design of monitor and software.Aiming at the problems that it was difficult to control the cooling of iron mould and the control precision of the electric trolley motion was low in the casting product line, the paper proposed two improved methods: the automatic control system of the cooler was designed based on PLC; the ANSYS software was applied to simulate the temperature field of the cooling of iron mould, and the PLC utilized the role of temperature and time by curve fitting to control the temperature of iron mould accurately. In addition, a set of closed-loop control system composed of the PLC, driver, step motor and encoder has been designed, which can control the motion of electric trolley exactly and improve the efficiency of production.The technology of casting crankshaft with iron mould coated sand can improve the quality of casting and the efficiency of production, also reduce the overall costs. It has a wide perspective of market and the significant economic benefits. Therefore, it has great significance to research and develop the manufacturing equipments and automated production line of casting crankshaft with iron mould coated sand to promote the development of foundry industry.
