At present, the use of directional solidification technology toproduct heavy plate steel ingots has been widely applied in abroad. But,in our country it is still at the initial stage. In order to master thetechnology to obtain quality directional solidification ingot as quicklyas possible, we can make use of simulation technology to get optimizeprocess parameters in the smaller cost as soon as possible. To obtainhigh-quality directional solidification ingots, and to reduce theproduction costs, there are many details worth of our study.This paper bring up the use of hollow-wall insulation directionalsolidification to product the heavy plate steel ingot according to theair insulation integrate the existing 23t directional solidification ofsteel ingot production actualities. Established the steel ingot finiteelement model of directional solidification ; According to theproduction-related dates set up the related initial conditions andboundary conditions; A numerical simulation was carried on thetraditional and hollow-wall insulation 23t unidirectional solidificationsteel ingot with ANSYS software, and verified the simulation results inuse of self-designed test. Then obtained the simulation results isfeasible. Anglicized the hollow air flow and the temperature field changesof the steel ingot and the wall through a numerical simulation wascarried on the traditional and hollow-wall insulation 40t directionalsolidification steel ingot; described the process of ingot solidification,and optimized the thickness of the hollow. Concluded that the hollow hasobvious role on the directional solidification of steel ingot wallinsulation, moreover the insulation effect is best when the thickness ofthe hollow is 6mm. It restrains the wall heat transfer, extends the time for the whole condensate, as a result improved quality of heavy plate steelingot.
