Coal tar is a very complex compound and also extremely precious organic chemical material. It has been studied that some components in the coal tar is very hard or even never obtained from other materials, for example, aromatic chemicals, impregnated sleeper, coal-powder. Therefore the subject of the separation of coal tar is one of the most important areas in the whole world.Unfortunately, due to the complexity of coal tar, many researches were limited into experimental methods. With the development of science and computer technology, it's possible to separate coal tar by using the advanced process simulation method. Based on Aspen Plus, the separation process has been further studied.Mastering reliable fundamental property and thermodynamic properties is the prerequisite for separation and simulation of coal tar. According to the coal tar compositions and distillation principle, the properties of conventional components of coal-tar have been characterized, which has provided dependable parameters for the separation process of coal tar.In this paper, the coal tar separation and industrial naphthalene refining process have been researched by simulation and optimization. It focuses on the effect of elements, such as feed stage,theoretical number,reflux ratio,distillate/bottom rate,side product stage and so on, on f on the separation process and product purity, in order to supply designing and improvement basis for the practical industry.
