Polyolefins including polyethylene and polypropylene are the most widely used polymer materials with the highest production in the world. The world annual production of polyolefins is now over 120 million tons including 20 million tons in Chinese market. Nowadays, more than half of the Chinese market demand of polyolefins is still imported from overseas. The lack of key polyolefin catalyst technologies and high performance polyolefins is still a great challenge for further development of Chinese polyolefin industry. Under the domestification strategy of polyolefin catalysts of SINOPEC, this paper studies on three domestic polypropylene catalysts, including DQ catalyst, CS-2 catalyst, N catalyst and their application performances in three sets of plants in Shanghai Petrochemical Company Limited. DQ Catalyst shows good running performance, high catalytic activity, excellent hydrogen response and superior quality grade ratio in the production of random polypropylene products and high-impact products, but has the problem of low degree isotacticity when producing bi-axially oriented polypropylene (BOPP). CS-2 Catalyst shows good hydrogen response and yields products with good quality, but with the problem of high content of residual monomer gas, which has been solved in this study. N Catalyst has high catalytic activity, excellent hydrogen response, high isotacticity and superior quality grade ratio in the production of polypropylene resin used in fiber, while the problem which affected the smooth running of plants has been also solved completely.Through the above-mentioned industrial application investigations, the best conditions of polymerization processes for application these three type catalysts for the production of several polypropylene products had been achieved, which provided strong basis for further broad industrial application of these key domestic catalyst technologies in Chinese polyolefin industry.
