The spring wire of superfine suspension spiral spring is one of slender shaft work-piece that is typically difficult to machine. It is not easy to acquire satisfactory processing precision due to the facts such as its large L/D ratio, poor rigid of slender axial parts, the linear expansion caused by cutting force and cutting heat on turning, axis self-weight and other factors which could easily cause shaft bending and vibration. So the turning of spring wire is a difficult processing technology. The traditional method mainly depends on manual processing of workrs, the processing precision of parts is affected by the proficiency of workers, and has a lower processing efficiency. So, It is necessary to seek the breakthrough for solving the problem of processing spring wire.This paper analyzes and summarizes the solving skills and scheme of slender shaft parts in the domestic and foreign.Establish the the force model of slender shaft on turning according to vibration theory, Base on this, the modal simulation analysis of spring wire is conducted by using the finite element analysis software, and the vibrate decreasing proposals were formulated. Base on theoretical analysis, a production machine is designed, a solution with flexible hydraulic follower rest and elastic tailstock are adopted creatively. The combination of these two methods both reduce the vibration of spring wire and improve the surface quality of the workpiece. With the purpose to improve the processing efficiency of spring wire and achieve automatic processing. The original transmission of the machine bas been re-designed and an open numerical control system has been developed. Through a series of experimental tests, this paper optimize the processing parameters and propose the technological process.Experimental results show that this machine tools can effectively improve dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the workpiece, In addition, have a higher production efficiency, which can realize scale-up production.
