In our country, the shipbuilding industry and ship coating industry developed rapidly since the new century. Coatings for ocean ship demand the property of functionality and long-acting performance. As a kind of heat insulation coating, thermal shield hull paint can lower the internal temperature of cabins and upper structures, so to ameliorate the living and working environment of sailors and equipments, and reduce the consumption of energy.In consideration of the strong corrode and aging impact to the coating caused by marine environment, and the functional requirement of heat insulation, the structure of thermal shield hull paint is designed into three layers: the anti-corrosion primer, the thermal insulation intermediate layer and the heat-reflective finishing layer. The resin, curing agent and functional pigments and fillers based on the required performance is selected. The effect of the content and partical size of the reflection-type pigments and fillers, the flatness of flatting agent and mixing colors on the reflectance of finishing coating, the effect of content ,partical size and layer thickness on the conductivity of intermediate layer was studied using conductivity tester and the restrained reflectance testing device, and the principle of that was illustrated. Then the physical and chemical methods dispersing nano-fillers into coating was studied. The formulation and construction technology of thermal shield hull paint was set out by the aforesaid study.The simulated heat insulation testing showed that the self-restraint white coating can lower the internal temperature for 14.7 more degree centigrade and the ocean grey coating lower 13.1 more degree centigrade at the most than common coatings. Also the anti-corrosion performance, the ageing-resistant performance, the wet and rusty coating performance is better than congeneric products.
