With the continuous development of science and technology and the continuously increase of world's population, the human surge in demand for natural resources, resulting in excessive exploit resources and excessive excretion of waste, destruction of natural ecosystems. Vegetation reduces and soil erosion, desertification, environmental pollution is worse, ecological and environmental problems are becoming the bottleneck of economic development.Sustainable development has becoming the people's pursuit of the ideal development model; governments also take this as a basic starting point of policy-making and a common policy objective. Zhengzhou is the capital city of Henan Province, which economy has already been attracting world attention. With further speed up the urbanization process in Zhengzhou, its ecological and environmental problems become severe up. Therefore, the research of Zhengzhou City sustainable status is particularly important.This research was based on the factual complexion of the society development of Zhengzhou, evaluated the environmental sustainable development situation of Zhengzhou City by Ecological Footprint model; the comparatively analysis of the global ecological footprint and Changsha ecological footprint to that of Zhengzhou; Established ecological sustainable developmental models and provided solutions to sustainable development of Zhengzhou city.The results concluded as follows:(1)The trend of Zhengzhou city's ecological footprint was in rectilinear rise during the past10years. The results show that the per capita ecological footprint of this region increased by39%from0.692367hm2to0.965661hm2from2001to2010(2)The trend of Zhengzhou city's ecological carrying capacity was rise during the past10years as well, while the per capita ecological carrying capacity increased by18%from0.449786hm2to0.531506hm2in the past10years.(3)The ecological footprint was in deficit for the past10years and the per capita ecological deficit increased by19%from to0.242581hm2to0.434155hm2.
