Due to its high strength, light weight and good flexibility, wire rope has been widely used as a key part of elevating equipment, transport equipment or load-bearing equipment in the field of engineering. Bending fatigue and chafing fatigue caused during the using process are the major forms of the failure of wire rope, and the diameter of pulley is vital to the lifespan of wire rope. Based on the actual need of studying the influence of pulley diameter on the fatigue of wire rope in engineering plants, this thesis gives a comprehensive analysis of the researches on the failure of wire rope both at home and abroad, and then presents a detailed introduction to the mechanism of bending fatigue and chafing fatigue. In addition, this thesis offers first-hand material for the study into the influence of pulley diameter on the lifespan of wire rope by using the testing platform for the fatigue of wire rope in School of Logistics Engineering of Wuhan University of Technology. The valuable data gotten from the test are important to the related study.(1)This thesis analyzes the loaded characteristic of wire ripe, mainly bending stress and contact stress, when it is winding around the pulley, through applying the basic knowledge of geometry, mechanics and fatigue fracture. Then the influence of these stresses on the fatigue of wire rope is explored. This paper delves into the influence of pulley diameter on the lifespan of wire ripe after analyzing the characteristics the fatigue of wire rope. The thesis finds that change in the diameter of pulley can directly changes the bending curvature of wire rope, thereby affects the bending stress of wire rope.(2)This thesis briefly introduces the equipment structure and working principle of the testing platform for the abrasion of multi-layer winding wire rope and pulley. More emphasis has been put on the test procedure and date collection. Having done many debugging, the author finishes the test and gets valuable and valid testing data by doing the test of the abrasion of wire rope with ten wire ropes. By applying the previous theories, the author has done a statistical analysis of the data and given a quantitative analysis on the abrasion of wire rope. The relevant testing data mainly include the analysis of the abrasion loss of wire rope, the analysis of the abrasion of rope race, failure detection of wire rope and the lifespan of wire rope. After the test, the author reveals the principle of the influence of pulley diameter on wire rope fatigue, and offers first-hand material for the study into the influence of pulley diameter on the lifespan of wire rope.(3)The author introduces the general procedure of the micro-analysis on the failure of wire rope, and then depicts the outward shape of the failing part of the wire rope from a macro perspective. Moreover, the author compares the differences between the outer wire rope and the inner wire rope, and also compares the characteristics of different failing wire rope. In addition, the author gives an analysis on the failure characteristics of the wire rope and the shape of the failing rope, exploring the causes of the fatigue of the wire rope from a micro perspective.
