With the population's increase, the constant reduction of land resource, especially the reduction of the cultivated land, it is an important problem that how to reasonably utilize land resources, and also how to fully excavate the productive potentialities of land resource. Taking Xiaojin County in North-west of Sichuan Province Mountain Area as an example, The productive potentialities of land resource from grain production potential and grassland production potential will be analyzed. The population carrying capacity in all villages and towns will be obtained through the production potentiality of cereal crops, and the carrying quantity of the population surplus and overload also be analyzed.Based on the data of solar radiation, temperature, precipitation, and soil in Xiaojin County, cereal crops production potentiality by using step correcting method, and pasturage production potentiality is estimated by using Miami model and Thornth Waite model. Animal production is calculated through transformation herbage yield and straw yield. And then land carrying capacity in 2009 and in 2020 is estimated by the total food production. In the light of the estimation and analyse, sustainable utilization strategy of land resource in the Xiaojin County is put forward.The result shows that the productive potentiality of maize is the biggest (7888.03kg/hm2), and the potato is the second(5572.52 kg/hm2), the pea is minimum(4520.42kg/hm2). All of the factors which affect the crop productive potential, the gradient is the biggest limiting factor. All village and town gradient , decay the intensity is 50% of potentiality. Comprehensive the grain potential productivity and the grassland potential productivity, Lianghe, Jiesi, Meiwo, Wodi, Hanniu, Fubian, the population bear the weight of strength to be relatively hight, and has not overloaded yet according to different grain consumption standards. Rilong, Laoying, Shuangbai, the population bear the weight of strength to be relatively low, and has overloaded yet. As a county government of Meixing town, the population carrying capacity is not to be relatively hight, but a lot of people live there, and there are very serious overloaded phenomena.In order to enhance the land potential productivity and realize the sustainable utilization of land resource in Xiaojin County, the paper has also put forward the countermeasures of agricultural production. Increasing farmland water conservancy, and building terraced fields, promoting the productivity development cultivated land; increasing cultivated grassland reduce overload; enhance the crop yield and the animal production; developing the town by local condition; utilize reasonably land resources.
