It is important to determine efficiently whether a health food is addedillegally with pharmaceutical components for their safe use. In this article, reversedphase high performance liquid chromatography-diode-array detector(RP-HPLC-DAD)technique was used to separate five kind of pharmaceutical components possibly existingin health foods.1. Different methods were set up to determine26pharmaceutical components infive kinds of health foods in the following chromatographic conditions: KromasilKR100-5C18, flow rate:1mL min-1, column tempreture:35°C, and methanol:0.08%sodium lauryl sulfate solution(0.1%triethylamine, pH3.5with phosphoric acid)=65:35(V/V)was used as mobile phase for the determination of glipizide, gliclazide, glibenclamide,glimepiride, gliquidone, phenformin hydrochloride and deltamine in hypoglycemic healthfood at230nm, methanol:deionized water(0.1%acetic acid)=60:40(V/V) for anti-rheumaticpharmaceutical components such as ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac sodium, indometacin,dexamethasone acetate and prednisone acetate at230nm, methanol:deionized water(0.1%triethylamine,pH3.5with acetic acid)=65:35(V/V) for sibutramine hydrochloride and phenolphthalein in slimminghealth food at230nm, methanol:deionized water=55:45(V/V) for diazepam, estazolam, triazolamand,phenolphthalein, nitrazepam and Phenobarbital at220nm, and methanol:0.05mol/L triethylaminephosphoric acid solution:acetonitrile=20:60:20(V/V/V) for silaenafil, cialis, vardenafil, hongdenafi,aildenafil and phentolamine mesilate at290nm. Retention time and ultraviolet spectrum wereused to do qualitative analysis.2. The methods then were approved. The26pharmaceutical components reachedbaseline separation for the resolution was bigger than1.5when using column C18andC8. When SNR was3:1, the detection limits of26pharmaceutical components were0.025-2g/mL, RSD%were0.2%-2%, indicating that the methods were reliable. 3. The methods were applied in the qualitative determination of pharmaceuticalcomponents added illegally in five kinds of health foods from market, which wereeffective and precise. It is pratical for daily determination for basic level testingdepartment.
