Recently,ink-jet printing has become a common means in the printing industry.This technology has been successfully adopted to produce colorful or black-and-white pictures in many industries,such as advertising,wood,glass decoration,textile art,and so on. Ceramic ink-jet printing technology(CIJP) has already come into being in foreign countries.This technology can produce clearer pictures with higher degree of individuality and artistic flavor.Besides,this technology can be connected with relevant equipments to achieve long-distant transmission and high level of automatization.In the last few years,a small amount of research had been done in China,but so far no practical application is reported.Because of the extensive use of ceramic products,the ceramic ink-jet printing technology has huge market potential.Carrying out the CIJP technical studies has a great significance to meet the demand of market development and upgrade the level of China's ceramic processing technology.In response to the ink requirement of the widely used drop-on-demand jet printer, this research firstly analyzed relevant research in recent years and chose to employ grinding method to probe into the preparation of ceramic decorative inks.After adjustment of all kinds of performance index of the ink,the research then carried out the experiment of printing,calcinations and coloring for three different colors.Research on conditions of the ceramic colorant grind-dispersing,including grinding-ball size,dispersants,concentration and their effect of combing dispersants, were explored.Finally a suspension could be gotten with fine particle size of colorant enough to prepare inks.The experiments show that the small diameter grinding-ball has a more effective dispersed results;the particle size distribution index(PDI) increased with rising milling rotate speed;Increase of the milling time can decrease the particle size and its distribution index.If the ratio between poly-carboxylic acid dispersant A and dispersant NNO was 3:1,and the amounts of them was about 9-12%in mass,a kind of stable decentralized system was obtained.After 16 hours high-speed grinding,the results was tested by the Dynamic Light Scattering and scanning electron microscope,the results shows that the average particle size(Z both particle size) of colorant suspensions can reach up to 150-200nm.According with the physical and chemical properties of printing ink,through the polymer dispersant,moisturizing agents and others additives,do the test of how to adjust indices such as viscosity,surface tension,pH and so on.The ink dispersing stability was tested under the room-temperature with gravity and centrifuge.The results show that diethylene glycol(DEG) was not only a good viscosity regulator but also can improve the ink dispersion stability.When diethylene glycol is in the proportion of 30%in the dispersion system,the system has optimal performance.The pH of the ink has a significant effect on the dispersed stability,when the pH was neutral,the absorbance-ratio of the ink was higher after centrifugal treatment,and dispersion stability showed well.In order to test the fluency,sharpness,drying property and intermittent printing performance,we use the flatted ink-jet printer to print on ceramic.Then the printing results were investigated through the compare of the apparent color depth(K/S) and the printing pattern effect.Testing result showed our blank and yellow surface decorative ceramic inks are completely conform to the requirements of ink-jet printing ink,such as the size,viscosity,surface tension and other indices.Because of the colorant size was very small and printing given ink amount is too low,the covering powder of the ink was not strong,it needs to print on ceramic for more than five times.Then after fired,the satisfied color depth can be got.So the color display behavior of the inks need further study.
