Through in-depth analysis of driving behavior data, characteristics and differences in driving behavior can be found among different driver groups, different traffic environments and different traffic behavior patterns, which could provide theoretical supports for interventions in poor driving habits and development of automobile safety systems. However, driving behavior data is complicated and luxuriant. It has become an urgent problem how to manage and use these data efficiently. Based on information technology, driving behavior database system can improve the efficiency of data management and using, reduce the burden of data processing for researchers and lay a good foundation for carrying out various researches about driving behavior.Firstly, from the characteristics and researching goals of driving behavior data, the paper determined the development train of driving behavior database. According to the need of research,4 classification levels were acquired including driver features, driver status, road traffic environments and traffic behavior patterns. With the data obtained from the collection platform of driving behavior, the application aims of driving behavior database were analyzed, including car following behavior, lane change and overtake, visual characteristics, situation under distraction and workload.The development of driving behavior database system includes the database development and application system design. According to the needs of business process and research, the data into database was divided into 6 modules, including basic test information, driver information, external environment information, driving behavior information, traffic behavior information and property index information, and SQL Server was selected as database management system to develop the driving behavior database. According to user needs, the application system was divided into 4 major modules, including data management, data query, data analysis and system function, and PowerBuilder was chosen as the development environment to design every part of the application system.Finally, the paper made using of the driving behavior database to conduct a study on lane keeping behavior, including time domain analysis and distribution analysis of lateral data. In addition,8 evaluation indexes was determined to analysis the influence of lane keeping feature caused by drivers individual differences, vehicle speed, lane width and road alignment, including Standard Deviation of Steering Wheel Angle, Steering Entropy, Mean Steering Wheel Velocity, Standard Deviation of Steering Wheel Velocity, Mean Lateral Position Standard Deviation of Lateral Position, Time to Line Crossing and Number of Lane Exceedances.The research was sponsored by Science and Technology Action Plan of National Road Traffic Safety (2009BAG13A05).
