The Structure And The Space Of Christian Kerez's Architecture Design

Switzerland architectures receive the global praise with its spirit of space, simple architectural style and exquisite detail. A lot of excellent Switzerland architects are also play an important role in the stage of contemporary architecture. Christian Kerez is one of them. He becomes more and more famous because the structure which is so impact and the space which is variable in his buildings. This dissertation is aim to analyze the relationship between space and structure, take general discussion and the specific analysis upon the projects, reveal the approach to create space which is based on the structure. Furthermore, the author is also trying to reveal the architectural concept that is under the appearance of buildings.The thesis comprises of five chapters. The first chapter gives an introduction on research background and aim, defines the area and the content of the research, analyzes the existing research and domestic and foreign records, and makes clear the research method and framework. The second chapter analyzes the relationship between structure and space, proves the independence and the importance of the space in structure design. Chapter three describes the three properties of the structure which including bearing structure, space interface and device space. Chapter four studies on the difference ways that architect defined space through various structural elements. And then discussed difference features of the space. The last chapter is about the design concept which is deep into the essence of architecture and reveal the innovation in the Christian Kerez's buildings.
