Magneto-rheological fluid (MRF) is a new intelligent material which has good magneto-rheological effect. The viscosity can be controlled by the external magnetic field. Nowadays, magneto-rheological technology has been greatly applied, but not maturely applied in transmission field. a kind of magneto-rheological fluid controlled planetary transmission device(MRFCPTD) was designed in this paper which take advantage of magneto-rheological effect to realize soft-start, torque adapting, rotative velocity adjusting, intelligent control and overloading protection, etc.Based on the transmission mechanism of magneto-rheological fluid and working requirements of MRFCPTD, by detailed comparison between the type of magnetorheological control device and the performance of corresponding planetary transmission and analysis of them, this paper confirmed the overall scheme of MRFCPTD; moreover, Magnetorheological control device and the parameters and structure of planetary transmission mechanism were designed, then Magnetic field structure and parameters of magnetorheological control device are optimized. In addition, The intelligent control scheme of MRFCPTD was discussed; At last, the performance of MRFCPTD was simulated and analyzed using Matlab software. The rationality of the device was proved in theory, this paper's research could be the basis of the further research.
