Wave energy is a kind of clean and renewable energy. It has many advantages using wave energy to generate electricity, it doesn't have the opposite hand as occupying lands, not being influenced by the climate, and polluting environment. Wave energy is a kind of new energy with high value and potential in use, and in China, it is abundant. Study on the wave energy converter is extremely important to alleviate the energy crisis and environmental pressure.Saucer-like overtopping wave energy converter which takes the floating structures is a new offshore wave energy converter. The floating structure is a platform for the generator. In order to develop the Saucer-like overtopping wave energy converter practically, the mooring system of the device is designed systemically. To ensure the safety of the device, it is very important to design the mooring system. In this paper, AQWA-LINE software based on three-dimensional potential theory is used to calculate the hydrodynamic force of the floating structure in the regular waves. Then according to the results and analysis of mooring systems, a new form of the mooring system called Chain Tension Leg is proposed. Geometric parameters of the chain and configuration of the anchorage foundation are designed. The performance of the device is checked by AQWA–NAUT software both in regular and irregular waves, which has confirmed that the design is suitable for this device.Motion response and anchor chain tension of the device with the mooring system designed are calculated by AQWA–NAUT software both in normal and severe sea condition. The conclusion shows that the motion response especially sway and heave meet the work requirement and the mooring force meets the safety requirement. The device working in lower water level is more dangerous than higher water level.
