Design Strategies And Applications On Modern Ruralized Urban Road Landscape

Since the worldwide concern about the human environment, as well as the requirements of urban livability, people-oriented and durability, the urban landscape construction and the urban-rural integration are speeded up in the Chinese urbanization. With the reconstructions of boulevards and the appearances of landscape roads, the city images and landscape are changed better, but with some problems.The objective of "International Modern rural City" is raised by Chengdu's Authority and emphasized in the urban construction, specially in the road space, which is important for satisfying the citizens' longing of nature and the purchase of garden fun, as well as solving the problem among the people, the transportation and the environment. It makes a citizen locates himself in the city, smells the aroma of grass and hears the singing of birds. Beginning with the concept of" Rural City", the analysis of modern rural culture and the fact on the roads in Chengdu, the problems of roads' space in Chendu are raised. An idea that, the road constructions in Chengdu should be part of construction of modern rural city, oriented to the citizens, reflected the city's spirit, conserved the historic inheritance and presented as an energetic and humanistic rural leisure road space. An evaluation, its design strategy are summarized and used to application.1.The basic concept, including the catalogues of urban road, the concept of urban road landscape and its design content, are introduced in this chapter, theoretically explaining the rural city and relative urban planning ideologies. The methodology of road landscape design in modern rural style are determined, by comparing the differences between the case study and the other urban planning ideologies.2.The concept and content of modern rural urban landscape are summarized by analysing the ideas of "Countryside" in different cultures and combining the ideology of modern rural city in Chengdu.3. Considering of the human behaviour and psychological characteristics, the human are treated as the main subject, and an evaluation system is summarized for the specialties of modern rural road landscape in urban area.4. According to the cases studies in foreign countries, And On the basis of previous paper, some specific design strategy are proposed.5. Reviewed on the road landscape reconstruction in downtown of Chengdu, an general layout of road landscape in downtown is analysed. With the representative case studies on road landscape construction in Chengdu, such as Jianshe Road, Tongzilin Road, Renmin Road South, the progress for road landscape design in Chengdu is found out, as well as the design strategy and method on the realization of rural road landscape are proposed by focusing on the existing problems.6. Based on the conclusions, the reconstruction on the Shaxi Road is applied by the design methods, as a case study and application support.
