With running of the High-speed train, train speed and traction weight is also rising which will cause a great longitudinal impulse. If the longitudinal impulse is too great, this will result in shortened life of vehicle parts, and even cause fatal accidents such as coupler broken and derailment. Therefore, in order to improve passenger safety and comfort of the ride, research on the buffer has drawn more and more attention.Compared with the normal buffer, elastic clay buffer have advantages of large capacity, small size, small resistance force and long maintenance cycle. It also combined the advantages of hydraulic and rubber buffer, it also overcome the shortcoming of the hydraulic buffer to make complex and sealing problems, and it improve the shortcomings of the low absorption rubber buffers. Take into account the advantages of elastic clay buffer, but this buffer has not applied to the EMU in our country. Therefore it is necessary to study the elastic clay buffers, and analysis the characteristics in the conditions of EMU grouping.In this paper, elastic clay buffer as the main object of research, analyzed the structure characteristics, the principle of work, static characteristics, dynamic characteristics of the elastic clay buffer. And on this basis, to create longitudinal dynamics model train in MATLAB/SIMULINK. With this simulation model, the buffer dynamics in different conditions were analyzed. Finally, to create a model of EMU in SIMPACK, put the dynamic characteristics of the clay buffer curve into model of EMU. And input the track irregularity, simulated in condition of emergency braking, and to evaluate the longitudinal comfort. The results show that, elastic clay buffer can effectively reduced the longitudinal impulse of EMU, and improve passenger comfort.
