With the development of modern industrial technology, transformer's requirements for every applied field are gradually improved. The modern transformers are not only satisfied with the requirements of electrical, magnetic, mechanical, thermal and high efficiency design but also miniaturization, light-weight and practicality. As with some inherent limitation, the conventional transformers can not fulfill our requirements. It is important to discuss the forward technique of transformer. The research and develop of superconducting transformer to improve the performance have theoretical significance and practicality value.The pulsed transformer is paid much attention in modern technology and applied widely in some advanced and sophisticated techniques fields. In the superconducting magnet storage pulsed power system, the excitation current is always big and can not direct obtain. The pulsed transformer could be used to improve the current output, minify the equipment volume, and reduce the switch burden. By theory analysis and parameters calculating, a normal conductor pulse transformer has been manufactured and used in the pulsed power system experiment. The experiment results evaluate that it is feasibility to raise the current output with pulsed transformer in the superconducting magnet storage pulsed power system. We have done lots of work on the superconducting transformer. Firstly, this paper presents the influence of leak inductance and distributing capacitance on the current output wave of pulsed transformer. According to the special application field, the paper presents the technical requirement, electromagnetic parameters and structure design of high-temperature superconducting pulsed transformer. Finally, we have done some experiments with the transformer. One experiment is to improve the pulsed current output in superconducting magnetic storage system. The other one is to validate the capability of carrying current under the transient pulsed current with capacitor discharge to the transformer.Theory analysis and experiment results indicate that superconducting pulsed transformer has well practicability and expansibility. It is a practical significance to use the superconducting pulsed transformer to improve the performance of high pulsed power supply.
