Line loss rate is not only the technical and economic indicator of power system, but also an important economic indicator of power enterprises. Line loss rate can reflect the reasonableness of grid structure and operation mode, and the technology and management level of power enterprises. Distribution network line losses hold a large proportion of power losses, so that accurately figuring out the line losses of distribution network and working out an effective measures to reduce it, has a very important significance on the economic operation of power system .This paper formulated the relative theory of GPRS technology, and introduced the GPRS wireless reading terminal system from the aspects of the general scheme as well as the main function and so on. The related data including voltage, current, power and other data of substation 10kV line gateway readers and 10KV line users was collected through the GPRS collecting terminal. This paper firstly calculated the theoretical line losses of the five 10kV distribution lines in the northern region of Qingdao using RMS current algorithm, meanwhile calculated the actual line losses of them based on the collected actual data. Then the paper compared the theoretical line losses with the actual line losses in order to find an appropriate way to reduce the distribution network line losses in this region, which could provide a theoretical basis for the calculation, analysis and evaluation of distribution network line losses, bring innovation to the management of distribution network line losses. At last, the paper analyzed the cause for the gap between the theoretical line losses and the actual line losses, and proposed technical measures, management measures, recommendations and improvements to reduce the line losses. All of these measures are very meaningful for implementing distribution network automation, carrying out the management of distribution network line losses in the northern region of Qingdao scientifically and efficiently, reducing line losses, saving energy and improving the economic efficiency of power enterprises.
