With the rapid development of the freeway, the issues of the highway conservation are being paid more and more attention to. And the slope is an important part of the freeway roadbed, so the conservation and maintenance for the slope is one of the most important works for the freeway. By the informational development of science and technology, the traditional management for the slope conservation can not fit in the growing demands of the highway construction; therefore, introducing the geographic information system (GIS) into the slope conservation management is the latest trend. By utilizing the GIS technology to achieve the combination of graphics and data and the way of data visualization to provide a new decision-supported method, we can make the decision on the slope conservation scientifically,modernized and intelligently.This paper sets in the high slope's maintenance and management of the Guangdong northern section of Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway. Through analyzing the geographic information system of slope conservation and management at home and abroad, based on the use of DELPHI integrated development environment for the front end, taking the advantage of GIS component development of technology, taking ArcEngine secondary development as a GIS platform and using Microsoft SQL Server database, we developed the northern section of Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway Guangdong High Slope maintenance management system, which based on the GIS. It implements an intuitive graphical display of the slope,the inquiry and statistics for the slope information,the evaluation of the slope, and the exporting and printing for the slope data.The system has been officially used in the Guangdong northern branch of the Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway Corporation. And this has verified the practicality of the system.
