As a kind of driving device which can directly convert electrical energy into linear movement, linear motor almost needn't any intermediate equipments, it plays a more and more important and unique role on many occasions. It has a simple structure and a long-lasting durability. It is very suitable for moving on a high speed, and it has a capability on controlling position precisely, moreover, linear motor has a great potential on rail transportation and an outstanding application on the military affairs, Therefore, linear motor has developed rapidly in its nearly one hundred and seventy years history.In the first chapter, the thesis reviews the history of the development of linear motor. It describes the development and the achievements it has made, and gives out the characteristics and classifications of linear motor, and has pointed out its strengths and weaknesses. In the second chapter, It has described the basic principles of linear induction motor, and given out its computational formula. In the third chapter, it has pointed out some factors which would impact on the performance of linear induction motor:the end effect, the impact of secondary material, the size of the air gap. Chapter IV has provided the design process of the linear motor in laboratory. In Chapter V, the thesis has made a simulated analysis for the linear induction motor which based on the experimental data. In order to meet the simulated analysis of the linear induction motor, the thesis has made a program to test the correlative performance data of the linear induction motor, and has obtained different characteristics of thrust in different air gaps when the motor get starts up. Then the thesis also tests the thrust characteristics of the motor in different frequency of the power. By analysing the voltage, current, power and some other changes of the motor when it is running, the thesis has found out the motor's performance characteristics and its'defects. Finally, by combining the relevant data of simulated analysis and experimental results, the thesis has summed up the characteristics of linear motor, and made some suggestions for the improvement of the motor performance.
